Women In Business Working with Conscious Covers

Women In Business Working with Conscious Covers

I am unfortunately very belated in publishing this ode to women in business (International Women's Day was five weeks ago!!). Around the time of International Women's Day, I was brainstorming some ideas for future blog and social media posts. It wasn't until this time, at least a year after we began the process of creating Conscious Covers, and about six months after we made our first sale, that I realised all of the people who played a major role in bringing Conscious Covers to life are women.

Despite the belated nature of this recognition, I still wanted to post a blog about the creation of Conscious Covers and all of the women in business that helped us - from concept to final designs, and everything in between. I am sharing this, in part, to tell you (our customers) a bit more about who we are, and also because it has been a wonderful experience, and this will perhaps inspire many more entrepreneurs to follow their hearts. Of course there have been a lot of ups and downs, but overall my memory of the experience is really positive.

Firstly, Jen and I who brainstormed about the product, founded the company (yay Conscious Covers), and basically just asked a lot of people a lot of questions..... And finally handed over some money to our wonderful advisors and suppliers.

Next up, the team at Designer Apparel Services (DAS) (including Cyndi and Maya) helped as general consultants about the textile industry as well as guiding us through the pattern making, sampling, and final production stages.

EcoDigitech took care of all of our printing needs, and Cindy was not only patient, but really helpful in

The lovely sales agent, Holly, at KenDor was a great help in introducing us to the world of textiles, and provided enough swatches for us to wrap our entire living room in small fabric patches :) It took us a while to get through the first round of selecting and purchasing fabric. Actually, it took us a while to get through all the stages of manufacturing our products!

From learning about the different advantages and disadvantages of various fabrics to which way patterns are layed out on fabric to minimise waste, and what file type is required for sublimation printing, there has been no end of laughter on our side at what we didn't even know we needed to know, to (I expect) laughter from our wonderful suppliers at the fact we were trying to start a business in an industry in which neither of us knew ANYTHING! Thanks everyone for helping us get where we are.... Now onto our second round of production!!
